Dr. Stuart Townsend is a clinical psychologist. He completed a pre-doctoral internship at Norristown State Psychiatric Hospital in Norristown, PA in 2001. He graduated from Carlos Albizu University in 2003 with a doctorate in clinical psychology and a concentration in Clinical Neuropsychology and a Master’s Degree in mental health counseling from the University of Miami in 1996. He has practiced clinical psychology for over 20 years.
Dr. Townsend provides therapy services to adolescents, adults, and couples using techniques largely derived from coherence therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy. In addition to therapy, he also administers psychological testing including: new hire and fitness for duty evaluations for law enforcement agencies; work related EAP evaluations for the public schools, universities, and corporations; and presurgical bariatric and spinal cord stimulator candidate evaluations for medical practices. He also tests and evaluates children, adolescents, and adults for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Dr. Townsend has worked in the field for over 20 years in both in- and outpatient settings.
Dr. Vanessa Townsend is the President and owner of Dr. Townsend & Associates, P.A. which was established in 2010. Dr. Townsend completed a pre-doctoral internship in pediatric and child psychology at the Kennedy Krieger Institute/ Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in 2001. There she received specialized training in the provision of services to patients with physical disabilities, developmental disorders, and complex medical problems. She received her doctorate degree in clinical psychology from Carlos Albizu University in 2001 and a Master’s Degree in mental health counseling from the University of Miami in 1996. Dr. Townsend has over 20 years of experience working in private practice.
Dr. Townsend specializes in the treatment of anxiety, depression, ADD/ADHD, self-esteem and identity issues, as well as behavioral medicine and trauma. Dr. Townsend utilizes an interdisciplinary approach to counseling, blending an interpersonal approach with cognitive- behavioral strategies. She treats adults, adolescents, children, and families. She also provides a variety of psychological evaluations, including pre-hire evaluations, as well as bariatric and spinal cord pre-surgical evaluations.
Ms. Weidner earned her Mental Health Counseling license with the State of Florida in 2013. She graduated with her Masters degree in Counseling Psychology from the University of North Florida in 2011, and graduated with her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 2009 from the University of North Florida. Ms. Weidner has been a member of our practice since 2018.
Ms. Weidner has over 10 years of experience providing counseling to children, teens, adults and their families through private practice, as well as educational and in-home settings. She has helped clients working in the St. Augustine and Jacksonville area including the Child Guidance Center and the St. Johns County School District. She is a member of the American Counseling Association and the American Psychological Association. Mrs. Weidner is trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing).
Ms. Weidner utilizes an integrative therapeutic approach. She creates an individually tailored treatment plan drawing on evidence-based techniques that highlights each client’s strengths and goals. She has experience in helping clients and families address traumatic events, anxiety, depression, family and relationship difficulties, social skills, major life changes, spiritual concerns, academic struggles, self- esteem challenges and behavior management.
Mr. Wyman holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from the University of Massachusetts and a Master of Science Degree in Counseling from Indiana University. He has been a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Florida since 1994, and prior to that was a Licensed Professional Counselor in Texas. He has had over 40 years of experience in the field. Mr. Wyman has been an outpatient mental health counselor with our practice since 2011.
Mr. Wyman has worked in a number of treatment settings including community mental health, substance abuse, foster care, correctional mental health and outpatient counseling in private practice settings. He has provided individual and group therapies, has supervised programs, and has been a clinical director.
Mr. Wyman provides counseling to adults, couples, adolescents and families. He specializes in short and long term counseling and therapy for depression, grief, anxiety, relationship issues, low self-esteem, anger, stress, trauma, phobias, and substance abuse problems.
Mr. Wyman’s approaches to therapy are cognitive-behavioral, reality therapy, contextual therapy and dialectical behavior therapy.
Mr. Meehan holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Jacksonville University and a Master’s Degree from St. Louis University School for Social Work. He has practiced Clinical Social Work for over 40 years and has taught undergraduate psychology since 1983. Mr. Meehan has been with our practice since 1995.
Mr. Meehan has a wide range of experience related in mental health. This includes tours in emergency psychiatric services, community mental health, forensic mental health and inpatient and outpatient counseling in the private sector. He is a retired officer from the United States Army.
Mr. Meehan specializes in the therapeutic care of depression, anxiety disorders, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), drug/alcohol dependence, marital and family problems. Mr. Meehan treats adolescents, adults and senior adults. Mr. Meehan’s treatment modalities include behavior, cognitive and psychodynamic approaches.
Dr. Dingfelder has over 49 years of experience as a licensed psychologist. Dr. Dingfelder is the former owner of our practice. Dr. Dingfelder continues to practice 3 days a week with Dr. Townsend & Associates, P.A.
Dr. Dingfelder has worked to help individuals suffering from problems of severe depression, excessive anxiety, marital and family issues, as well as alcohol and other drug problems. He employs many therapy approaches including cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness and solution- oriented techniques. Dr. Dingfelder has become well known for work with eating disorders and has authored a booklet on these issues.
As a dedicated and respected professional, Dr. Dingfelder has received many awards and credentials. They include his certification as a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist, as well as a Certified Case Manager. Dr. Dingfelder is a member of the Florida Psychological Association and is listed on the National Register of Health Service Providers in Psychology.
Dr. Dingfelder is known for the workshops he provides in numerous areas for individuals and businesses. He is trained in and provides critical incident stress debriefing. He provides professional/corporate coaching and specialized consulting to businesses and government agencies.
Dr. Nuszkowski received her doctorate degree in counseling psychology from West Virginia University in 2008 and a master’s degree in clinical psychology from Western Carolina University in 2003. Dr. Nuszkowski has a wide range of experience, including providing clinical and assessment services in community mental health centers, college counseling centers, and an eating disorders clinic. Dr. Nuszkowski was a licensed psychologist in West Virginia, and served as the assessment coordinator at the Carruth Center for Psychological and Psychiatric Services before relocating to Florida in 2010. Dr. Nuszkowski has been a member of our practice since 2011.
Dr. Nuszkowski provides counseling and assessment for adults and couples. She specializes in treatment for depression, anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, ADHD and relationship, LGBT and multicultural concerns. She has published articles on intimate partner violence and child maltreatment, and presented conference presentations on college students with ADHD, intimate partner violence, adolescents with serious emotional disturbance, recovery from stressful experiences, and impairment among graduate students.
Dr. Nuszkowski utilizes an integrative approach to therapy, incorporating cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, psychodynamic, solution-focused, and mindfulness based approaches. Dr. Nuszkowski is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Florida Psychological Association.
Dr. Jane Echterling earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from Nova Southeastern University in 1999. She graduated from Millersville University with a Master’s Degree in psychology in 1987. She majored in psychology at Mount Holyoke College, from where she graduated With Honor in 1985. Dr. Echterling has been practicing psychotherapy for over 30 years.
Dr. Echterling’s passion is psychotherapy. She incorporates many orientations into her work with clients. The foundation of her practice is client-centered, and she draws on theories and interventions from cognitive-behavioral, existential, psychodynamic, and behavioral domains. She works with adolescents, adults, and older adults. Depression, anxiety, and psychological issues associated with disability are areas of focus. Dr. Echterling joined the practice in 2015.
